SAI (GB) Limited is the U.K. subsidiary of SAI SpA, Modena, Italy, one of the World's leading manufacturers of Radial Piston Hydraulic Motors.

SAI (GB) Limited offer sales, service, spares and application advice relating to the SAI hydraulic motor range together with ancillary items such as brakes, valves and gearboxes.

Our specialist knowledge, gained over many years of different applications, coupled to an extensive and flexible product range enables us to offer hydraulic motors, which are exactly suited to each application requirement.

HYDRAULIC MOTORS

An extensive range of displacements from 40 cc/rev through to 1200 cc/rev in nine basic frame sizes is available. Options include variations on shafts, flanges, bearings, distributors, high pressure shaft seals, and competitor interchangeability.

HIGH SPEED MOTORS

These motors offer the high speeds previously only associated with axial piston designs, and therefore the corresponding high powers. High running speeds of up to 2500 RPM and 2800 RPM freewheeling are possible with the smaller displacement motors. High-pressure versions are also available with peak pressure capability of 800 bar.

DUAL DISPLACEMENT MOTORS (follow THIS LINK to view leaflets covering the LATEST DEVELOPMENTS)

With the introduction of a new range of Dual Displacement Radial Piston Hydraulic Motors, SAI aim to get a new foothold in established markets where there is a requirement for High Speed performance combined with Low Speed controllability, down to “creep” speed, and exceptionally high Starting Torque Efficiency. These features being especially desirable for applications such as Winch Drives as well as for both On and Off-Highway Transmissions. Known as the “BD” series, displacement combinations are available ranging from 25 to 500cc/rev. This newly released product line is the result of some 10 year’s of continuous development and testing in the Company’s own R & D Division, as well as lengthy Field Trials in the most arduous of conditions. The BD series can run at speeds exceeding 3000 RPM in certain sizes.

WHEEL DRIVE UNITS

SAI offer both direct wheel drive units with or without automotive style drum brakes and combined motor/gearboxes with or without spring applied hydraulic pressure released brakes. These are ideally suited for a wide range of mobile applications, and displacements range from 60 cc/rev through to 4111 cc/rev.

GEARBOXES AND BRAKES

A range of single stage epicyclic gearboxes is available enabling high torque to be achieved with compact dimensions. Spring applied, hydraulic pressure released brakes can also be incorporated into these units. SAI Hydraulic Motors can also be easily fitted on to many proprietary gearboxes and SAI (GB) Ltd. can supply these as a package if required.

VALVES

SAI (GB) Ltd. offer a range of cartridge type valves either fitted directly into the motor distributor or in a separate block which can be mounted directly onto a standard distributor or in line for higher flow rates. The valves available include cross line relief valves, overcentre valves, brake shuttle valves, purge valves and anti cavitation valves.

The SAI Hydraulic Motor is of the eccentric crankshaft design with many exclusive features including:-

Swivelling Cylinder - This enables the cylinder to remain aligned with the eccentric of the crank, thus eliminating any side loading between the piston and cylinder.

Double Piston Support Bearing - The pistons transmit their load to the shaft via a hydrostatic bearing which reduces metal to metal contact, and a central roller bearing which minimises the sliding velocity between piston and the spherical support ring.

Piston Retaining Rings - These ensure that the piston remains in contact with the shaft under all operating conditions, including in cavitation.

Axial Flow Rotary Distributor - This ensures that the oil is distributed to the pistons with high efficiency due to short, large section oil paths. Many different distributor options can be fitted to any of the range of hydraulic motors.

These design features enable the SAI Hydraulic Motor to offer many benefits including high mechanical and volumetric efficiency, high starting torque, good slow speed running characteristics, together with tolerance of contamination, thermal shock and cavitation.
